Hello Readers!
At school, we have been writing a narrative story. I leart that the purpose of a narrative is to entertain the reader. First we had to make a plan. Then we started writing our narrative story. We had to include seeting, characters and personafurcason. One of my favourite sentences is the inky black water simmered in the dim light of the glow worms. One thing I could improve on is adding more language features. We were not allowed to use words like 'said' or 'walked'.
Here is mine. (Leave a comment if you are entertainment )
Talons of Power
Chapter 1
The Great Escape
Cold rocks and more rocks is what Sundew had grown up in, a cave. She was almost full-grown but had never seen the sky. In the caves there was only one old oak tree. That is where sundew slept. The other dragonets didn’t seem to mind living in a cave. All except Sandstorm and Bumblebee, who both wanted to feel the sun on their scales. They were here because of the prophecy that the nightwings made with their ‘future seeing powers.’
“FIGHT!” Yelled Auk one of their 3 guardians. Auk was the icewing and the meanest one. “OW!” yelled Sora as Auk stomped on her tail.
“You said stomping tails was cheating!” Poor Sora, she was the biggest of the group so she was supposed to be the scary, tough one. But so far she was as scary as a fly. “I’m your teacher, nothing I do is cheating.” snapped Auk, backing Sora into a corner. As quietly as she could Sundew glided off the ledge she was sitting on, crept up behind Auk and sunk her sharp teeth in Auk’s tail. “ YEOWWW” Yelled Auk spinning around to face the sundew. “Come fight me instead!” she challenged. “Challenge accepted,.” purred Auk, clawing at Sundew’s face. Sundew ducked and slipped under Auk, and clawed at her underbelly. “ENOUGH!” yelled Auk. “ Fireball should be back with dinner soon.” snapped Auk.
Sundew could taste the blood pouring out of her snout. “What’s wrong?” asked Orka, the seawing dragonet. “Oh nothing, just bleeding a bit.” She replied. “No problem, just jump in the river!” Orka advised. Jump in the river was Orka's answer to all the dragonets problems. ‘Hungry, jump in the river!’ ‘Sleepy, jump in the river!’ ‘Sick of jumping in the river, JUMP IN THE RIVER!!’ “ Oh, ok I have to cross the river to get to my tree anyway.” “Yay!” cherped Orka. Sundew walked over to the underground river and stuck in one claw. Suddenly one of Orka’s talons reached out of the blue and pulled her into the river. “AHHHHHHH TOO COLD!” yelled sundew as she paddled across to the tree. She climbed out of the river.
Sundew climbed up into her secret treehouse. There was a stack of scrolls on the brown, wooden floor and a map of Montana was on top of her desk. This was a place where no one could bother her. There was only one dragon who knew about the treehouse, and that was Orka. Orka slept in the river and was the only dragon who did not sleep in the sleeping cave. Even if Orka didn't know about the tree house now, she would find out from the glowing light of Sundew’s study torches.
“Sundew! Sundew, where are you?! Fireball is back with dinner!!” shouted Creek. Creek was the nicest of the three guardians. He was a seawing and spent most of his time teaching Orca the seawing underwater language called ‘Aqua’. Sundew poked her head out of the tree. She flew down to the dinner hall, grabbed a cow and flew back to her treehouse. Where she ate it and went to bed.
Sundew crept out of her treehouse at midnight and she knew exactly where she was going. The sleeping cave. It was dark in the cave but no problem with her night vision. “Guys wake up and listen to me!” She snapped. Suddenly all eyes were on her. “ We need to escape. We need to meet our parents. So who knows a good way out?” she asked. “There is a tunnel at the end of the underground river past the fight cave. I think it might lead to the ocean.” Explained Orka. “Well that was easy” exclaimed Sundew. “Ok, bye now” she said as she flew back to the treehouse, and slowly drifted off to sleep.
“WHAT DID YOU DO WITH IT?” Yelled Auk. Sundew crept out of the old, slightly broken treehouse and glided over to Orka. They swam in the river and under the stone wall to the guardian's sleeping cave. “Hey, we don't know if she was the one who took it!” snapped Creek. The seawing was sitting in the shallow end of the river. His dark, greeny blue scales were dancing in the firelight. In the corner of the cave Sundew spotted familiar black and sun yellow scales. It was Bumblebee. Why is Bumblebee in the guardian's cave? She wondered “OF COURSE SHE TOOK IT!” screamed Auk. “Took what?” asked Bumblebee. “Now Bumblebee, Do you know what a dream visitor is?” Asked Fireball. “Oh yes, I’ve read about them in books. There were only 8 made by an old magical nightwing.” she replied “Yes, Bumblebee I know you like to explore, So tell me one thing. Three nights ago did you steal a dream visitor from our cave?” Asked Fireball. “ Of course not.” replied Bumblebee. Oh no, What if they find out it was me who took it. Wondered Sundew as she swam back to her treehouse.
Where is it?!? Her mind was racing. AHA! There it was it looked like a blue star. She closed her eyes. Show me Queen Wasp. The sand was hot and the sun was beating down. There standing in the middle of the desert was Queen wasp. Her crown was a glittery silver. It worked! The dream visitor had brought to Queen wasp! “You’re one of the dragonets from the prophecy, aren't you?” cooed Wasp. “ Beware the darkness of dragons. Beware the stalker of dreams. Beware the talons of power and fire. Beware the one who is not what she seems. Something is coming to shake the earth. Something is coming to scorch the ground. Owl mountain will fall beneath thunder and ice unless the city of night can be found.” recited Sundew. “So you're serious about this whole thing?” asked Wasp. “Oh no, to me it's just a silly poem. Sora is the one that's full on about it, I don’t know why.” She politely replied. “Mother, who is this dragon?” asked someone from behind wasp. “This is one of the dragonets from the prophecy Jewel.” replied wasp. “AHHHHH!!” There was a noise coming from the river. Gotta go! screamed her mind.
She opened her eyes and she was back inside the treehouse. Sundew stuffed the dream visitor in her desk and glided down to the river where Orka was all chained up in the water! “THERE GOING TO KILL BUMBLEBEE BECAUSE SHE'S NOT THE SKYWING THE PROPHECY NEEDS!” shouted Orka. “OH NO!” shouted Sundew. “I WILL ESCAPE AND SAVE HER!” exclaimed Sundew. “This is not a good idea, '' advised Sandstorm. “ OH SHUT UP YOU BOOKWORM!” snapped Orka “But how will she find her way back?” asked sandstorm. “Hmmm, Good point. We can burn some books so the smoke goes through the sky hole!” explained Orka. “NOOOOOO! NOT THE BOOKS ANTHING BUT THE BOOKS!” cried Sandstorm. “All in favour of burning the books say I,” called Sundew. “I” called the other dragonets. “Well fine, It's not like those books where my life.” said Sandstorm. “OFF TO THE RIVER!” shouted sundew diving in. It was cold in the river. She swam downstream. Following the current, she made her way into the little gap under the cave wall. This was it, she was finally going to see the sun.
Sundew couldn't breathe underwater, but she could see in the dark. Something was sticking to her scales. It was sticky and white. The inky, black walter simmered in the dim light from the glowworms at the top of the cave. Suddenly she toppled off an edge and was plummeting down to the water. “AHHHHHH!” she screamed. That was all she could remember before she passed out.
Mud. Sundew woke up covered in mud. The blue sky was filled with black and yellow dragons. Sandstorm was right about where their underground prison was. In Hivewing Territory. She looked around and saw the boulder leading to their underground home. She was looking at her prison from the outside. She dug a hole in the mud that led under the boulder. “AHHHHHHHH!” screamed Sora. “Calm down, it's just me!” claimed Sundew. “Now get the others its escape time!” Called Sundew “YAY!” Yelled Sora. “SHE IS BACK!” Called Sora. “You actually made it back,” said Sandstorm, as quiet as a mouse. “Ya, wow thanks for having so much faith in me.” Hooted sundew.
They flew out of the muddy reven and landed by an old oak tree. “A seawing, a leafwing, a mudwing, a sandwing and a hivewing, all together. You must be the dragonets.” Cooed Queen wasp from behind them.
“AHHHHHHHHHHHH!” screamed Sora as the guards locked them up in the dungeons. “You know, some dragons don’t want this war to end. Some dragons want owl mounton to fall along with all the dragonets inside it.” Cooed Wasp walking out of the dungeon.
When Wasp was gone, The three princesses trotted in. Cicada was the oldest and the scariest. Testy was the most evil and cunning. Jewel was the prettiest and the smartest. Jewel was also the only princess who wasn't evil. “What are these stupid dragonets doing here?” Snapped Testy “These are the ones from the prophecy. DAH!” replied Jewel. “Then why don’t we kill them right now?” Asked Cicada. “Because we need them alive. They need to kill Mother and choose one of us to be Queen. If we killed them, Mother would be Queen forever. Plus if we killed them no one would believe it’s them. Even if we hung them from the palace walls, no one would believe it. They would keep believing in the prophecy anyway. Idiots. “Kind of like you two,” replied Jewel. The other two sisters looked stunned. “Oh.” they both said at the same time. A guard came running in “Queen Wasp has ordered me to tell princesses Cicada, Testse and Jewel to all go to bed.” He snapped. The three princesses trotted out the room.
That was only chapter 1. The rest will be coming soon.
