My Awesome EOTC Week (Orana Park)

 On Monday for EOTC week (education outside the classroom) we want to Orana Park. I saw lot's of amazing animals, but the two I liked the best haves to be the creepy gorilla that kept staring at me and Soph, and the cute Tasmanian Devils.

 I learnt about all the animals at Orana Park and that gorilla's have the strength of 11 men. The weather was CRAZY! One minute it was sunny and the next it was raining!

My Amazing Narrative

 In class We have been writing a Narrative about a video called Marshmallows. Here is mine . (and the video link) 

Marshmallows

Smoke danced in the sky with the stars. The fire was as hot as the sun in the cold night air. I was camping in the woods. I saw a shadow creep across the grass. I looked behind me and saw a humongous lime green monster!!! 

The monster had a long tale and lime green skales all over him. He had green eyes and three legs, sharp teeth and long things that stuck out of his ears. He had a long tongue and floating eyebrows. 

I stood up and turned around.  I put up the stick that I was roasting my marshmallow on and pointed it at the monster.  The monster's eyes widened and he ate the marshmallow. So I took another one out of the bag. The monster did a flip and landed on his back so I gave him a marshmallow.  “I have no more marshmallows!” I said. 

The monster's face darkened. I ran as fast as I coud and I tripped on a rock.  Suddenly the monster sprang towards me, I took a pillow and held it against my face. The monster's eyes widened and I threw the pillow away. The monster sprang towards it and I ran all the way home.

Description Writing

A few weeks ago we started doing some Description Writing. Here is the picture we had to write about. 

“Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you.” The song echoes through my mind. The bubbles in the fizzy have a cracking sound. 

All my friends are surrounding me, with pink and blue party hats on. The balloons in the background are banging against each other. There is a present on the table with red wrapping on it. 

The caramel apples on a pink plate smell as good as  flowers. I look at the chocolate birthday cake on the table, it smells delicious.

Buddy Class

 Today at school we had Buddy Class. My Buddy's name is Nadia. Today we had to teach our buddy's how to play board games quietly. Me and Nadia played Lego with Pippa and her buddy. We also played Connect Four.

 For the Festival of Flowers all of my class had to make a flower poem.  It took me a long time to finish so here its 😃🤩

Swimming

Today was the last day of swimming at Canterbury Swim School. My swim teachers name is Sam. Sam taught me how to do backstroke.We had to keep our arms straight and do arm circles.We had to do 3 to 4 lengths of the deep pool.We had to help each other get out of the deep end of the pool. I had a lot of fun and I got to jump off the diving board!!! Here are some pictures of the last two weeks at Canterbury Swim School.

Description Writing

 For the last week we have been writing some Description Writing about a picture of a beach. Here is mine.

The water stands as still as a statue. I can feel the breeze blowing against my face.The palm tree waves to me as I walk along the peaceful beach. I hear a little wave crash against the smooth, soft sand. I look at the beautiful water. People run into the water and little kids hold ice creams. The sound of babies crying echoed through my ears.

Kiwi Kids shout out for room 10.

 Today after fitness we sat on the mat and watched the catch up on Kiwi kids news just like normal. But today we finally got the shout out. Room 10 at Hornby Primary School for always commenting and being supportive! 💖😀 We all screamed out "YAY!"💖😀

Buddy Class

 Today we had to go to buddy class I was so excited to see my buddy. My buddy's name is Nadia. Today we played fun game's. We played connect four. Nadia won 9 time's! But that's only because I let her win. Then we played Lego me and Nadia built a humongous Lego house and we had bunk beds! Nadia made a horse and I made a dog.

My Spectacular Narrative

At school we have been learning to write a Narrative. We had to base the narrative on a photo. Here is mine (and the photo)

It was a dark and stormy night. I was going for a walk down the wet and windy road when I saw something running towards me. I started to run but a big gust of wind blew against my face. I released I was standing on a sewer drain, and it couldn't stay in place with me standing on it!  

Suddenly the sewer drain collapsed and I fell down into the sewer! When I fell I saw something move. It moved so quickly I could hardly see what it was. All I knew was that there was something in the sewer with me. Something creepy and small. I decided to keep moving to try and find another sewer drain. It was creepy but something in my brain kept telling me to keep moving. So I did. 

I kept walking and I saw a word written on the wall in red. Molly! I was starting to get very scared and I felt like I should turn back but something kept pulling me further. Suddenly I saw a creepy doll on the wall behind the doll was the word Molly!  “The doll’s name must be Molly.” I thought.

The doll had long yellow  hair, a black dress, black shoes and a brown teddy bear stuck to her hand.  I went to have a better look at the doll, when I saw something move again. This time it came running at me! “AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!” I screamed. It was still coming closer and closer. When it got to me I released it was just a little baby rat. “That must have been what I saw moving when I fell,” I thought. The rat ran away and I looked at the doll. “It must have been left here many years ago,” I said.  I walked past it going closer and closer to the red wall.

When I got to the end of the cold damp sewer there was a big red wall. The wall had a wet black ladder on it. “This ladder must lead up to the surface.” I said with my hopes up. Then I realised that the baby rat I saw didn't have a family. I climbed back down the ladder and found the baby rat. I carefully picked her up and put her in my pocket where she fell asleep. I named her Ruby and I started to climb the ladder. 

When I got to the top of the ladder I climbed out of another drain. I ran home and found out Ruby was very dirty and she seemed very hungry. When I finished feeding Ruby I gave her a bath in the black sink. Then I found out that she was actually a white rat! She was adorable. 

The only problem was I needed to find somewhere where she could sleep. I went to the shop and got a big cage. I put the cage in my room on my desk. I filled the cage up with toys, a food and water bowl, a mouse bed and a Hamster Wheel so she could stretch her legs as I was sleeping.

100 Word Count

 In class I had to make a 100 Word Count. I had to involve these  words water, rubber, striped, frozen and excited. Here is it.

One day I was at Ruby's house for a sleepover. She loved going on adventures with me.“What are we going to do tonight?” asked Ruby excitedly. “We will obviously go on an adventure,” I said.  So we climbed out the window and splashed in some water. Suddenly we saw a creepy rubber doll staring at us. I felt frozen and I could tell Ruby felt twice as scared. Then the doll disappeared! Me and Ruby were relieved and excited at the same time! We went back to bed because we were too scared if the doll would appear again.

My Amazing Narrative

We have been learning to write a Narrative. We had to bass the narrative on a photo. Here is mine (and the photo)

One day I was walking through the woods and I heard a big loud crash! I ran out of the woods and came to the edge of a big beautiful lake. CRASH! I heard the waves crash against the cliff I was standing on. Suddenly I felt someone pushing me closer and closer to the edge but when I turned around to see what it was I fell straight into the lake!  When I got to the bottom of the lake I passed out and when I woke up laying down on the sandy beach and the lake was calm. 

I saw something swim away quickly. I caught a glimpse of its tail before it swam away. The tail was glittery, scaly and it was pink and purple. It looked so majestic. I looked around me and realised that I better be getting home. I didn’t want to leave because I knew I would forget where it was. So I  picked up some stones, and left a trail of stones on the way home.

I started walking, dropping stones as I went. When I was back in the woods I saw something move. I looked around but saw nothing, so I continued walking. Suddenly I saw a creepy doll. The doll had long yellow hair, black shoes on, a black dress and had a small brown teddy bear stuck to her hand. The reason she was so creepy was that I saw her eyes move. Not like one of those blinking dolls. Her eyes moved side to side. I ran home as fast as I could still dropping stones. But that was a bad idea. Then I thought that the doll was the one that pushed me into the lake. At frost I thought it was crazy, but the more I thought about it the more it made scene. 

That night I couldn't sleep. I was too scared to close my eyes just in case the doll arrived. Suddenly my door swung open but there was no one there! Then I saw something fly into my room! It was a fairy. She sat on my night table and told me that he would watch the door so the doll wouldn't appear. I was going to ask her how she knew about the doll. But I fell asleep as soon as she finished her sentence. 

The next morning I got ready and then went outside and followed the trail of stones. I was a bit scared because I thought I might find the doll again but she didn't appear. So I decided the doll was just a hallucination. 

The reason I was going back was because I needed to see  what it was that swam away from me. Although I didn't want to fall in the lake again I knew it was the only way to find it. So I leaped into the water. Suddenly I saw something swimming towards me. 

It was a mermaid! She touched me and I started to feel a little weird. I opened my eyes and saw that I was growing a pink and purple mermaid tail! “What’s happening!” I screamed. “I touched you so you're turning into a mermaid.” sad the mermaid.  “My name is Sky .” said Sky  “My name is Ruby” I said. Suddenly I heard my mum call me “How do I change back into a human!” I asked anxiously. “You just touch the sand,” said Sky. When I touched the sand my tail disappeared and I went home with my mum. Every single day I go into the lake and play with sky.

Matariki Stars Recount Writing

      Matariki Stars

Brrriiiiinnngg! Went the bell as I ran to my class. We sat on the mat and listened to Mr O’Leary as he explained what we were doing for Art. He said that we were making Matariki stars. He showed us a photo of some Matariki stars that people have made. 

Then he gave us a piece of paper and we sat down at tables I was doing mine on the blue table. I drew on my star and Mr O’Leary said “now you need to draw the patterns inside of your star”. So I drew cool patterns inside my star. It was amazing and fun. 

Then I cut out my star and Mr O’Leary gave me a piece of paper to dye. We had to dye the piece of paper on the standing table. I dyed mine red, pink, yellow and green.When I was done dying it I had to wait a very long time so as I waited for it to dry I read a book on Epic. Suddenly Mr O’Leary told me that it was done dying. 

 I got my tie-dyed paper, my star and a glow stick and I stuck the star onto the  tie-dyed paper. When it was all together it looked amazing!

My Amazing 100 Word Count Stories

I made a new 100 Word Count Story and it is exactly 100 words,and we had a sentence that we had to include in our story, here it is.

                             … and then I saw it …

There was a 9 year old girl named Amanda. Amanda loved exploring,one day as she was out for a walk she saw a spooky abandoned house. When she walked up to the old gate she found me so we decided to explore together as soon as we got to the second level of the haunted two story house Amanda pointed at something in despair. I looked and looked and then I saw it, a tall white figure was staring at us from the top of the staircase and we ran all the way home and hid under our beds.

The Amazing Axolotl

We have been learning to write an information report for writing.  This week we wrote about about the spectacular creature of an Axolotl.  Here is my information report.

Axolotls are amazing.  Axolotls can grow back part of its body, so say it got it's leg cut off it will just grow it back in 40 to 50 days!

The color of an axolotl's body can be black, pale pink, brown or white. Axolotls look like a tadpole with legs, a dorsal fin and a pair of external gills. Axolotl do not have eyelids. An Axolotl can grow  9 to 10 inches long and it's uncommon for them to reach lengths bigger than 12 inches. As they get older they look the same as they did when they were babies but they just get bigger. They kind of look like eels except for they have cute little arms and tentacles like gills.

Axolotls live for a long time, they live up to 15 years on a diet of worms, insects, crustaceans and some fish. This species has begun to suffer from the introduction of large fish into its lake habitat.

Axolotls use snakelike reflexes to lunge at their food and catch it before it can run away.These movements are often much, much faster than their normal swimming speed.

Axolotls can regrow the same limb up to 5 times. 

The feathery looking things that sick out from either side of its head are called its gills.

The amazing Cheetah

Hay guys today I’m going to tell you facts about the spectacular and curious

animal called a Cheetah. As you probably know

Cheetahs are very fascinating animals and that is why today I’m going to tell you

about them.

(Habitat)

Cheetahs are found across Africa, primarily in northern Africa and they are scattered

across eastern and southern Africa. Cheetahs can be found in dry forests, grasslands,

open plains and desert regions.

  A small population lives in Iran, where they are critically endangered  (Cheetahs

once roamed much of Africa and Asia, but are now

endangered.

Their loss of habitat, lack of prey to feed on,

and their vulnerability to humans, hunters, and poachers has increased their risk

of becoming extinct). Cheetahs live in a variety of environments. 

(Eat)

Cheetahs mostly eat small to midsize mammals such as gazelles,

impala, guinea fowl,

and hares. Cheetahs hunt at dusk or dawn. They hunt by sight. Once they

spot prey they will

sneak up as close as they can and then use their superior speed to

catch the prey. Cheetahs

will usually eat their meal as fast as possible before a lion or a pack

of hyenas can take it away.

These large felines do not need much water to survive, they

get most of what they need while

eating.

(Looks Like)

Cheetahs have a short tan coat that has small black spots which helps them to

hide or be camouflaged.

There are no spots on the cheetah's white stomach area.

Adult cheetahs

will grow to between 90 and 140 pounds and around 4 to 4.5 feet long.

They have a slim body,

long legs, a deep chest, and a narrow waist. The female cheetah is

usually smaller than the

male, but there are no major differences in appearance between the

male and female

cheetah. 

(Special Features)

When a Cheetah is running it’s back legs go in front of its front legs. A cheetah is built

for speed. It has long, slim, muscular legs, a small, rounded head set on a long neck,

a flexible spine

, a deep chest, non retractable claws, special pads on its feet for traction and a long

tail for balance.

Although fast, the cheetah cannot run at full speed for long

distances (100 yards is about the limit) because it may overheat.

A baby Cheetah is called a cub. 

Cheetahs have distinctive black "tear stripes" that connect from the

inside corner of each

eye to the mouth that may serve as an anti glare device for daytime hunting.

(Movement)

The spectacle of a cheetah running at full speed is art.

The anatomy and physique facilitating its speed and agility is genetic

engineering at its best. The cheetah can accelerate from 0 to 60

mph in 3 seconds,

making it the fastest land animal on the planet.  The cheetah is a sprinter,

not a long distance

runner – and can only attain high speeds in short bursts due to

the tremendous drain on its

energy resources. It could take up to 30 minutes for a cheetah to recover

from a chase.

Design Process

How does a mobile phone work

Hey guys today I'm going to tell you how a mobile phone works.

So as you can see here on the picture there is a mobile phone where when you call someone the call goes through the mobile switching centre, where they find who you're calling and deliver the call, then (as you probably know) it just depends if the person you're calling picks up or not. 

But that is not where this blog ends. Instead I am also going to tell you how the call gets to the mobile switching centre and how they deliver the call. There are base stations that have now been invested into every lamppost in New Zealand and the call gets delivered place to place from there. Thank you for reading my blog and feel free to comment. My spectacular story

It was Friday the 13th and Jeremy was in the passenger seat of his car. He was thinking of the payday from his boss. There were children running around on the playground in the school grounds. It would have been normal except for Jeremy was recording it all on his camera. As you can probably tell Jeremy was a spy, it was his job to spy on only one kid named Michaela. 

Suddenly Jeremy saw Michaela walking somewhere else at the school he was assuming the court, so without looking where he was going he ran to the court. But when he was halfway there he realised that Michaela was not going to the court. But she was moving school! He found out that the school’s name was cheetah school.

 

Then his car broke down so he had to walk, and he fell into the sewers! As he stumped through the thick thick mud he looked up directions to cheetah school on his phone. He followed the directions and it turned out that squinting in the sewers was faster than the car that Michaela was in because of all the traffic up on the rods.

Soon (as in 25 minutes later) he managed to get rite under the gate to cheetah school but the only problem was how was he going to get up without anyone noticing him? He looked for an exit but he couldn't find one. He heard Michaela skipping up to the school gates then he realised that what he thought was 25 minutes was accidentally 8 whole hours! So it was now 8am! He needed to get out of the sewers soon because he just realised how hungry he was!

Soon he found an exit and he sat there on the road trying to get an Uber to take him back under a big abandoned bridge. When the Uber driver finally came he hoped in and went to the abandoned bridge where he said to his boss “I quit you don't even pay me enough to spy on one kid at one school" Suddenly Jeremy's boss gave him a sincere and sad "fine you're fired you where never good enough anyway". 5 years later Jeremy got married to a lovely lady named Amanda also they had a baby girl they named Emma.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

At My Amazing School

At school we have been doing Math, Epic, 100 Word Count , spelling, Cloze and our covd-19 posters here is an example of two things of our work:

100 Word Count It is over 100  words because Miss Scott wanted to see how it ended.They are normally exactly 100 words

It  was a cold, rainy night and two girls went for a walk. Their names were Isabel and Rosabell. All of a sudden they heard a scream. They knew it was coming from the abandoned graveyard. 

They slowly walked towards it. As they got closer the screams got louder. When  Isabel and Rosabell got up to the abandoned graveyard’s gate the deafening screams echoed through the cold night.  

They climbed up the graveyard’s gate and then looked for the  thing that the screams were coming from. Then they saw the most frightening thing yet. Something dead was coming out of the ground!!!!!!!  

Isabel and Rosabell slowly  backed away but then Isabel tripped on a gravestone. She fell and the thing came closer and closer she got up and ran for her life!!! Then Isabel and Rosabell found out they were lying wide awake in bed with her mum and dad with hot chocolates. “ it was just a bad dream” they thought to themselves and had their hot chocolates.

Hey guys Caitlin here after the long long Lockdown. The last 6 weeks I have been doing all kinds of things at home. But I am glad to be back at school with my friends. Over Lockdown my friend Soph cut her hair as you can see in the photo and she has new glasses. Me Soph and Genever are the best of friends.

Covid-19

This week we have returned to school in Level 2.  At the moment there are only 35 active cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand.  Only 4 cases are in the South Island. 
Back at school we have had to make sure we are being hygienic and sanitising our hands.  We have been trying to social distance and have been talking about the 'Moist Breath' zone. 
On Monday we did a page about our time in our bubbles.  These will get put together into a book.  Here is an example:

How to make amazing pancakes

Title how to make amazing pancakes

Goal make amazing pancakes

Equipment

maple syrup, white sugar, blueberries, a bowl, and a tablespoon. Lemon zest ½ tsp.

 Milk,Egg 1, butter 30g.Big pan.spatula,plate.bananas

  Steps

1. Put one tablespoon of white sugar into the bowl.
2. Mix it for 10 seconds.
3. Add  Lemon zest ½ tsp.
4. Add 1 cup of  milk.
5. Add 1 egg.
6. Add 30g of butter.
7. Mix it for 50 seconds
8. Get a big flying pan.
9. Carefully add the pancake mixture onto the big flying pan with a spoon.
10. Let it cook.
11. Use a spatula to flip the pancakes on to the other side.
12. Get a plate
13. Use a spatula to get the pancakes onto a plate.
14. Add some blueberries and bananas onto the pancakes.
15. Add maple syrup.
16. Eat it.

How to make a spectacular and delicious hot chocolate

Today we had to white down steps about how to make a hot chocolate here's mine. I tested the recipe and it makes an amazing hot chocolate.

Title: How to make a delicious hot chocolate 
Equipment: Jug,Cup,sugar,marshmallows,
drinking chocolate,milk.
Steps
1 Boil the jug
2 Get a cup
3 Add one teaspoon of drinking chocolate
4  Add the sugar
5  Fill the cup but not quite full with jug water
6 Mix it for 30 seconds
7  Add the milk
8  Add the marshmallows
